About the Role

This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Security and Preparedness (OSP), Field Operations Division, VA Police Service.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: The Chief directs compliance and risk management activities, ensuring adherence to Title 38 U.S.C. §§ 901-902, VA directives, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • The position oversees systemic compliance reviews, vulnerability assessments, and physical security surveys, approves corrective action plans, and monitors resolution of deficiencies.
  • The Feld Chief directs investigations of major incidents, criminal activity, and security breaches, ensuring evidentiary integrity and legal sufficiency of case packages.
  • The incumbent implements enterprise risk management strategies to mitigate threats and enhance security posture across all facilities.
  • The position champions Veteran-centric policing models, promotes advanced de-escalation strategies, and ensures integrated responses to mental health crises.
  • Provides executive leadership and guidance to subordinate supervisors and managers in implementing policies, procedures, and directives of senior management.
  • Oversees and evaluates supervisory practices to ensure consistency, equity, and compliance across the organization.
  • Reviews and approves recommendations for selections, promotions, details, and reassignments, ensuring alignment with mission requirements and workforce planning objectives.
  • Establishes and interprets performance standards for organizational units and ensures subordinate supervisors effectively communicate expectations and provide feedback to their teams.
  • Evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors and ensures fair and consistent application of rating techniques throughout the division.
  • Provides direction on corrective actions for performance or conduct issues and reviews proposed disciplinary measures for appropriateness and compliance.
  • Promotes a positive work environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and ensures compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principles.
  • Provides executive leadership and strategic oversight for all law enforcement and investigative operations within the established geographic area.
  • Establishes policies and operational standards for enforcement activities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, VA directives, and Title 38 U.S.C. §§ 901 and 902.
