What You'll Do
- →This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget, Office of Occupational Safety and Health, Workers' Compensation Program in Washington, D.C.
- →This position is being advertised as both location negotiable after selection and with a duty station(s) of Denver, CO; Washington, D.C.; and Boise, ID.
- →If applying to "negotiable after selection", this means that your duty station will be based off your current DOI duty location.
- →At the full performance level (GS-14) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Provides strategic leadership, long-term planning, and direction for the workers' compensation program.
- →Exercises full supervisory authority over staff, assigning work, setting priorities, monitoring progress, and evaluating performance in accordance with merit system principles.
- →Develops employee skills through coaching, mentoring, and training, while fostering career progression and workforce engagement.
- →Provides department-wide oversight of the Workers' Compensation Program, ensuring compliance with Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA), Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) regulations, and Department of the Interior (DOI) requirements.
- →Develops, manages, and maintains the Department-wide strategy for the reduction of losses and costs associated with workers' compensation cases.
- →Analyzes and evaluates Department-wide case data.
- →Observes trends and patterns in various areas, e.g., rehabilitation, retraining, and/or medical retirement.
- →Develops Department-wide policies and procedures, Personnel Bulletins, guidance documents, memoranda, and letters for Agency-wide distribution.
- →Develops methods and resources for investigation of possible fraud and abuse of workers' compensation benefits in collaboration with the Department of Labor, the Office of Inspector General, the Office of the Solicitor, bureaus/offices and executive office program officials.
- →The Office of the Secretary has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and may be allowed with supervisory approval.
- →Salary Information Salary with locality pay will vary based on current duty station.
