Supervisory Health System Specialist

About the Role
This position is responsible for: working collaboratively with local and VISN leadership to identify and/or implement best practices; advising VAMC leadership of all program requirements pertaining to the Credentialing & Privileging (C&P) program; ensuring quality assurance and providing oversight and supervision for the VAMC C&P program; and ensuring facility C&P documents are reviewed and updated annually (or as needed) to reflect regulations or accreditation standards.
What You'll Do
- →Oversees all functions related to healthcare providers' professional credentials supporting all divisions of the VAMC in accordance with VHA Credentialing and Privileging (C&P), Directives, VA Handbooks, Policies, Memos, and Notices; The Joint Commission (TJC) Standards and State and Federal Regulations.
- →Works collaboratively with local and VISN leadership to identify and/or implement best practices and advising VAMC leadership of all program requirements pertaining to the C&P program.
- →Ensures quality assurance and provide oversight for the VAMC C&P program.
- →Serves as the VAMC's Senior Technical Advisor and as the primary consultant and liaison to the VISN C&P Officer.
- →Outlines VAMC C&P program goals and objectives, identifies risks, supervises all VAMC C&P employees, ensures training and education, and completes second level reviews as appropriate.
- →Determines appropriate actions, including those resulting from VISN and local level reviews, initial and recredentialing processes, including, but not limited to primary source verifications; reporting and data trends, identified issues that require further review, and electronic credentialing database and clinical privilege maintenance.
- →Attends committee meetings and presents providers' credentials, clinical practice histories and red flags.
- →Documents and composes committee minutes, privileging requests and/or actions malpractice payments, tort claims and adverse actions, Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) reviews and completion timeframes.
- →Contributes to development of local policies; ensures program compliance.
- →Tracks State Licensing Board reporting.
- →Manages VetPro access levels and training.
- →Serves as the Point of Contact (POC) and SME for credentialing updates, Human Resources, providers and hiring services; telehealth teams to ensure C&P requirements are completed prior to patient care activity.
- →Serves as the VAMC SME on the following topics, including, but not limited to credentialing of licensed independent practitioners (LIP) and Non-LIPs; privileging and privileging related matters including focused and ongoing professional practice; adverse privileging actions; Reporting to the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB); and reporting to State Licensing Boards (SLB).
- →Monitors and audits the VAMC C&P program utilizing VetPro reports, mandatory auditing and reporting tools.
