About the Role
The position is directly aligned under the Medical Center Director at West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) in Big Spring, Texas. The Corporate Compliance Section Chief is responsible for managing a multi-disciplinary team that includes expertise in business compliance, conflict of interest, investigations, and auditing. Recruitment or Relocation incentive may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate.
What You'll Do
- →The Corporate Compliance Section conducts audits, analyzes data and completes investigations as well as conducting routine monitoring in areas of previous compliance-related failures.
- →Although the Corporate Compliance Section has a broad purview, as determined by the Medical Center Director, there are areas in which the Corporate Compliance Section will always audit.
- →These include areas to include scheduling practices, consult management, clinic cancellations, use of Electronic Wait Lists, community care, privacy practices, business compliance, coding and documentation accuracy, and compliance with Records Information Management policy.
- →The Corporate Compliance Section Chief contributes to the fulfillment of VHA's mission and vision by ensuring efficient and effective operation of the Compliance Section at West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS).
- →Major duties include: Supervising the initiation and completion of Administrative Investigations and Fact-Findings as approved by the Health Care System Director.
- →Ensures that the selected AIB members possess the knowledge and skills necessary for the investigation; ensures accurate identification of the scope of the investigation as part of the preparation of the chatter; ensures that the logistics are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner; and that the AIB Report is provided to the Director by the deadline established in the charter.
- →Ensures that a retrospective review is completed to determine the origin of noncompliance when investigations, studies, reviews and audits identify a compliance failure.
- →As section chief, the incumbent creates a formal, written training and education plan for all disciplines within the Compliance Section that encompasses TMS required courses and job specific training.
- →Incumbent may also create and present lunch and learn trainings, New Employee Orientation material, or targeted training to address results of performance failures or investigative findings.
- →Promotes the need for qualified Factfinders to participate in Factfindings for the facility through education of service chiefs and supervisors on process and benefits.
- →Functions as Chair of the Integrity and Compliance Committee (ICC), providing ongoing and consistent reports, feedback, and outcomes to the VISN Compliance Officer and Health Care System Director.
- →Verifies that there are risk-driven internal controls in place throughout the Health Care System to monitor Compliance Section activities and these controls are reviewed by the ICC on a periodic basis.
- →Conducts facility risk assessments, participates in external reviews of the organization and accreditation surveys to identify, assess, prioritize, mitigate, monitor, document, and bring compliance risks to closure specific to all disciplines with the Compliance Section.
- →Advises and provides counsel to Compliance Section staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives; guides and reviews work of subordinates.
