About the Role

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY HEALTH PHYSICIST OR NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Radiological Monitoring Division, Radiological Control Office Code 105.3 of PSNS and IMF.

What You'll Do

  • You will plan, coordinate, conduct and evaluate the radiological monitoring program in accordance with NAVSEA, Shipyard and Federal regulatory agency requirements.
  • You will decide on matters relating to the organization, function, responsibility and authority for various aspects of the radiological monitoring program at the divisional level within the command.
  • You will prepare the planning, training and drills to ensure adequate on-scene radiological control responses for actual or potential radiological emergencies.
  • You will solve problems which involve policy determination or interpretations and collaborates with heads of other units to coordinate work related changes affecting other units.
  • You will assign specific areas of responsibilities to senior supervisors and assign to each of them subordinate supervisors and technicians required to adequately perform their assignments.
  • You will identify special training requirements for teams, identification of basic courses of work practice problems, and participation in the development and implementation of permanent corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must posses: For 0840 Nuclear Engineer: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
  • For 1306 Health Physicist: A.
  • Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.
  • Combination of education and experience courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
