About the Role
About the Position: Serves as the Assistant Fire Chief. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Click here for more information on SRC for Firefighters (Secondary)
What You'll Do
- →Direct the work of firefighting crews.
- →Oversee master operational roster and schedules to ensure adequate personnel and staff coverage during each shift.
- →Review updates and recommend changes to division standard operating procedures and guidelines.
- →Schedule and approve leave for immediate subordinates.
- →Perform one-on-one counseling with subordinates to resolve problems and complaints expediently.
- →Assume operational control at emergency incidents directing firefighting crews until relieved.
- →Review plans for construction and building modifications to assure compliance.
- →Direct operational activities for fire stations to include care and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- →Prepare accident and injury reports and performs after action investigations.
- →Discuss fire hazards, deficiencies and health and safety hazards with responsible installation officials.
- →Instruct firefighter personnel in classroom and hands-on training exercises.
- →Attend meetings and give briefings on behalf of the Fire Chief.
- →Resolve conflicts among technical heads of agencies when operational problems exist.
