About the Role
This vacancy is for a GS-0081-11, Supervisory Firefighter (Assistant Fire Chief) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE KODIAK FIRE SAFETY DIVISION -FF in KODIAK, Alaska. Member is assigned to a 144 hour per pay period work schedule.
What You'll Do
- →You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter (Assistant Fire Chief) (Assitant Fire Chief) and be responsible for provides aircraft crash fire protection, structural fire protection, vessel fire protection, hazardous materials response, weapons of mass destruction, confined space rescue, and emergency medical assistance services.
- →Customer groups include Coast Guard commands and personnel, the City of Kodiak, Womens Bay Community, Bayside Community and other outlying island communities, in compliance with mutual aid agreements, and the Kodiak Airport per the State Airport Agreement.
- →The position performs leadership and technical duties..

- →Typical work assignments include: Supervising the operations of the shift, including matters pertaining to organization, administration, and training.
- →Directing and supervising fire fighting operations involving crash/rescue, structural, shipboard, wildland, and EMS incidents in accordance with established procedures.
- →Maintaining records of inspections and schedules.
- →Conducting lectures and demonstrations on fire prevention measures, regulations, and fire fighting techniques.
- →Conducting training through the use of classes, drills, and familiarization of all home ported and visiting vessels.
- →Performing administrative functions in support of staff or operations; including procurement, record keeping, and information management.
- →Preparing reports, maintains records and correspondence pertaining to fire loss incidents, aircraft emergencies, emergency responses, fire protection systems, pre-fire plans, vehicle records, periodic and performance appraisals.
- →The incumbent will maintain Alaska State Emergency Medical Technician certification.
- →The incumbent will maintain a valid Alaska State vehicle operator's license.
- →Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
