About the Role

In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Fire Services Branch. MWEOC is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, approximately 60 miles west of Washington, DC. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience supervising and managing personnel performing technical services within a fire department to include supervising training, safety, fire prevention, EMS programs, etc.

What You'll Do

  • All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place.
  • Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground.
  • What will I do in this position if hired?
  • In this position, you will serve as a Supervisory Fire Protection Specialist responsible for conducting fire/safety classes, assisting in developing emergency response plans, and maintaining readiness to respond to a variety of emergencies.
  • Typical assignments include: Supervising, managing and participating in the administration and planning of comprehensive fire prevention, facility, EMS.
  • Logistics and life safety programs (the Hazard Assessment Inspection Program, Fire Prevention and Education Program, EMS program, logistics and acquisitions process, training and certification programs).
  • Providing command and control of all emergency incidents and personnel on duty shifts.
  • Preparing, executing, and scheduling assignments of work to subordinate personnel ensuring that all MWFRD directed projects are completed on time and that they meet established objectives.
  • Providing data and reports to assigned Supervisors and making recommendations to the Deputy Fire Chief to ensure that an efficient and effective emergency response program is established.
  • Serving as an Incident Safety Officer as emergency scenes and training evaluations per department's standard operation guidelines and procedures to develop and distribute health and safety information, investigate all occupational injuries, exposures and fatalities or other potentially hazardous conditions involving department vehicles, equipment, or facilities.
