About the Role

The Supervisory Environmental Care Specialist performs technical and administrative work involving managing and administering Environmental Management Service (EMS) operations and safety of Miami VA Healthcare System that includes support to all Outpatient Clinics (OPC) and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). Position is also responsible for developing, coordinating, directing, and managing the hospital Environment of Care (EOC) Program, in association with EMS Deputy Chief.

What You'll Do

  • Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Engages in activities related to the management and administration services provided by Environmental Management Service (EMS).
  • Develops, coordinates, directs, and manages a hospital Environmental Management Program.
  • Provides advice and counseling to workers regarding housekeeping work and administrative matters, duties and quality control.
  • Assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of safety regulations.
  • Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing for and arranging for needed development and training.
  • Establish criteria; formulate projects; assets programs effectiveness; and invest or analyzing a variety of unusual conditions.
  • Conducts systematic monitoring and surveillance activities of contracted laundry services.
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises all Environmental Management functions such as environmental sanitation, laundry/linen operations, interior/exterior pest control, patient support program, waste management and bed services program.
  • Provides advisory services to all level of management and hospital departments regarding the requirements and resolution of substantive Environmental Management problems and services provided.
  • Develops a particular program or functional area (i.e. laundry, recycling, municipal solid 11 waste disposal, regulated medical waste disposal, environmental management: has continuing responsibility for independently planning and carrying out important environmental management programs or projects.
  • Communicates agency and hospital policies and priorities throughout the satellite facilities of the Miami VA Healthcare System.
  • Posses knowledge of the statues, regulations, licensing/permitting requirements, governmental regulations of environmental programs and waste management.
  • Develops and implements organizational structures and operating plans and procedures to achieve program goals, monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of operations within the established framework.
  • Hears and resolves complaints from employees.
