About the Role

The Bureau of Labor Statistics measures labor market activity, working conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to support public and private decision making. This position is with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Office of Field Operations, Philadelphia Region, Division of Federal State Programs.

What You'll Do

  • Manages financial aspects of federal/state cooperative agreements evaluating state funding needs in relation to Bureau funding and negotiates appropriate cooperative agreements.
  • Manages cooperative agreement finance in accordance with law, regulation, ethics, and good business practice.
  • Advises the Regional Commissioner, the formal Federal Grant Officer, in all aspects of financial status and approach.
  • Directs development of work plans to ensure states meet deliverables.
  • Develops regional work plans to ensure the region meets its deliverables, including collection, quality reviews, and validations.
  • Directs a program of training and technical advice and consultation to the states to ensure State staff are technically proficient in Bureau programs.
  • Identifies training and development needs of state staff working on Bureau programs and ensures that needs are addressed.
  • Directs staff through subordinate supervisors in making such decisions as granting initial approval of State to expand or reduce sample size or curtail or redirect activities and contract funds for maximum productivity.
  • Maintains professional liaison with key employers, local associations, labor organizations, universities, State and local governments, and Federal agencies.
  • Interviews candidates for positions; makes or approves selections for subordinate non-supervisory positions and recommends selections for subordinate supervisory positions.
