As Assistant Chief Radiologic Technologist, the incumbent has the responsibility for providing radiological studies to inpatient and outpatient clinics, operating rooms, and ICU areas throughout the medical center and offsite locations (if applicable). Incumbent is expected to perform radiology procedures during the absence of appropriate staffing so that direct patient care services are not affected, and continuity of service is maintained.

- →VA Careers - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: https://youtube.com/embed/I-4ku5UMvWM Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but not limited to: Incumbent directly supervises, evaluates and directs work performance of subordinates in General X-ray, MRI, CT, Mammography, Ultrasound and DEXA across all locations of the Radiology Department.
- →Assists the Chief Technologist to coordinate and manage aspects of radiology and imaging services to achieve optimal utililization of the available resources to include scheduling, funding, space, equipment, and support purchases.
- →This requires coordination of activities between local clinical managers, medical center leadership, VISN leadership, and V ACO.
- →The incumbent's ability to identify and implement methods for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of performing these services and the liaison role the incumbent plays affects the overall operational services to our Veteran patients, their families and the community.
- →Directs on-the-job training for employees and provides back-up skills by cross training.
- →Confers with radiologists to develop standard and non-standard exam protocols.
- →Advises employees of the performance requirements of their positions, keeps them informed of their progress in meeting the requirements, and prepares formal evaluations of employee performance.
- →Follows established Quality Assurance (QA) guidelines and protocols to ensure integrity, availability, authenticity, and confidentiality of imaging data transmitted by the various modalities.
- →This requires personally previewing imaging coming from modalities prior to storage in the PACS archive.
- →Keeps abreast of current published material pertinent to position in order to keep pace with the rapid growth and echnological changes occurring in the field of radiology.
- →Assists the Chief technologist in managing staff resources to accomplish the needs of the Medical Center taking into consideration factors such as staffing levels, staff retention, budget, strategic planning, staff productivity, etc.
- →The incumbent pursues data driven decisions using benchmarking, time-motion studies, and other measurable factors to assess outcomes.
- →Assigns work based on priorities, consideration of difficulty, and requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees.
- →Prepares formal requests and recommendations for promotions, reassignments, quality increases or other performance awards for Diagnostic Staff assigned to them.
