About the Role

The Federal Housing Finance Agency, Office of Inspector General (FHFA-OIG) promotes the economy, efficiency, and integrity of FHFA's programs and operations by conducting audits, investigations, evaluations, and reviews and recommending courses of action designed to support FHFA's mission of ensuring a safe and sound mortgage finance system that provides reliable liquidity and funding for housing finance and community investment.

What You'll Do

  • The position is in the Office of Investigations.
  • The following are the duties of this position at the EL-15.
  • (Equivalent to the GS-15) However, if you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • As a Supervisory Criminal Investigator (Special Agent in Charge) you will: Work independently and/or collaboratively with others in establishing plans for the execution of the most unique, complex, and sensitive projects relating to the criminal investigative program of the Office of Investigations.
  • Projects may be initiated as the result of inquiries received from members of Congress, as well as any other key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate multiple phases of a project, or separate aspects conducted simultaneously.
  • Consolidate in-process findings to continually evaluate overall quality and adherence to professional standards, and to determine possible expansion of scope, direction, and eventual findings and recommendations.
  • Confer with, assist, and advise the Deputy Inspector General for Investigation (DIGI), the AIGI and other senior officials in the planning and developing of new investigative policies, programs, standards, requirements, procedures, and techniques.
  • Perform supervisory duties such as managing the work, reviewing performance, hiring, recommending promotions, recommending awards, recommending training, and taking disciplinary action.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable guidelines associated with anonymous, whistleblower, and confidential complaints.
  • Confer with and advise responsible agency officials on investigations.
  • Such discussions may relate to the urgency or priority of issues relating to ongoing field operations, such as significant investigations, undercover operations, threats against personnel and facilities, and the use of special investigative techniques.

Requirements

  • - A probationary or trial period may be required.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period. - A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required - This position may require the incumbent to be reassigned to a different geographic location.
  • NOTE: Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition, Lautenberg Amendment, Title 18, U.S.C.
  • Section 922(g)(9). - You must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a Government-owned or leased motor vehicle - This position is subject to the random drug testing program.
