About the Role

This vacancy is for a Supervisory Criminal Investigator (Special Agent in Charge) in the Office of Export Enforcement (OEE), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement (EE), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) within the Department of Commerce.

What You'll Do

  • As Supervisory Criminal Investigator (Special Agent in Charge), you will perform the following duties: Plan for and direct the operations of the Field Office.
  • Supervise Criminal Investigators, Export Compliance Specialists and support personnel.
  • Conduct and/or direct investigations that have national or international impact on the export enforcement program.
  • Conduct, provide consultation and/or give approval as needed for investigative activities.
  • Provide oversight in certain investigations which require special attention due to their broad scope, hazardous elements, and serious economic, commercial and/or criminal implications.
  • Direct the development of guidelines, procedures, and instructions for use by investigative personnel and research legislative action that could have impact on OEE's investigative functions.
  • Establish and maintain liaison contacts in all areas of the law enforcement/intelligence community.
  • Coordinates findings, as appropriate, with other law enforcement agencies and other regulatory agencies.
  • This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Supervisory Criminal Investigator (Special Agent in Charge), GS-1811-15, Full Performance Level (FPL) GS-15 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • This position requires a TOP SECRET/SCI CLEARANCE: Any required investigations and clearances must be completed before the selectee can be placed in the position.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use of possession of drugs.
  • A probationary period may be required.
  • A supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • Selective Service: Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (see https://www.sss.gov/).
  • If you receive a conditional offer of employment for this position, you will be required to complete an Optional Form 306, Declaration for Federal Employment, and to sign and certify the accuracy of all information in your application.
  • All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
  • Bargaining Unit Position: No Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE form 450): Yes Permanent Change of Duty Station (PCS) Expense: will not be paid License required: Yes, Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Drug Test Required: Yes, This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing thereafter.
  • Pre-employment physical required: All applicants tentatively selected for this position must successfully pass all required physical/medical examinations prior to appointment.
  • Selectee must be able to successfully pass, as applicable, annual and periodic physical/medical examinations, and psychological screenings to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.
  • Basic Training: You must complete or have completed the basic criminal investigator course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Glynco, GA (or equivalent training determined by the agency).
