About the Role

The Supervisory Criminal Investigator serves as the National Response Team (NRT) Supervisor for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' NRT Regions. The NRT Supervisor has specific and functional responsibilities within his/her area of assignment and is also often called upon to perform special studies and/or projects (all related to the law enforcement mission of ATF) beyond their immediate assigned area.

What You'll Do

  • The major duties of the Supervisory Criminal Investigator (NRT Supervisor) position include, but are not limited to, the following: Oversees all operational, interview and intelligence functions at all NRT activations or on occasion other regions as directed.
  • Supervises up to 30 special agents, who are tasked one with performing substantive criminal investigative work.
  • Manages and directs a large staff of criminal investigators and clerical support, overseeing their work for effectiveness in conducting division operations and activities.
  • Manages all aspects of NRT activations and evaluates team performance.

  • Citizen or National Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st, 1959.
  • Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.
  • May be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • You must be a current permanent ATF employee with competitive status or a CTAP/RPL eligible candidate.
  • Pass drug screening and subject to random drug test.
  • Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  • You must meet all applicable time-in-grade requirements by the closing of this announcement.

  • MOBILITY PLAN: New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement.
