About the Role

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.

What You'll Do

  • The Office of Investigations is responsible for investigating the appropriate criminal and civil justice system those individuals and organizations involved in financial, professional, civil, or criminal misconduct relating to Department of Homeland Security programs and operations.
  • The incumbent will serve as the Director, East Region, assigned to the Office of Investigations, and is responsible for providing oversight and leadership to a team of criminal investigators and support staff concerning investigations related to national security, fraud, abuse, and/or other misconduct in programs or operations administered or financed by the Department.
  • Typical assignments include: Direct and manage criminal, civil, and administrative investigative programs through subordinate managers, supervisors, and administrative personnel, providing executive leadership, strategic oversight, and operational direction to ensure effective execution of complex investigative operations.
  • Advise senior executives on investigative policies, procedures, and operational strategies while developing and implementing long-range strategic plans, annual operational goals, and resource priorities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, agency priorities, and professional investigative standards.
  • Participates in and advises the DIGI and AIGI in the development and implementation of OIG investigative policies, procedures and programs to allow the Department to effectively carry out its mission and meet national policy objectives.
  • Makes recommendations to the DIGI and DAIGI concerning the formulation and establishment of DHS investigation policies and instructions when required by changing conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
