About the Role

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.

What You'll Do

  • The Office of Investigations is responsible for investigating the appropriate criminal and civil justice system those individuals and organizations involved in financial, professional, civil, or criminal misconduct relating to Department of Homeland Security programs and operations.
  • The position serves as a Supervisory Criminal Investigator (ASAC) responsible for the most difficult, sensitive, and complex investigative matters.
  • Typical assignments include: Providing supervisory guidance, expertise, technical advice to the criminal investigators and assistance to the investigators and staff.
  • Ensuring coordination with the United States Attorney's Office, developing and maintaining productive relationships and exchanges with counterparts in the DHS, FBI, DEA, and other related Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies regarding investigative efforts and to gain perspective and provide for a more coordinated approach to mutual areas of investigative interest.
  • Participating in all phases of program planning and policy formulation for the field office, sub-office or HQs division.
  • Develops and presents to the Special Agent in Charge methodologies for the improvement in the operational and administrative activities are conducted in an efficient, effective and timely manner.
  • Providing oversight of allegations that fall within the jurisdiction of INV and allegations that do not fall within the jurisdiction of DHSOIG are referred to the proper DHS Component or other Federal Agency.
  • Preparing status, statistical and special reports as required by congressional requests and mandates, CIGIE standards, IG Manual, or other management officials.
  • Maintaining liaison with other law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and national levels for purpose of obtaining their cooperation in furnishing information concerning illegal activities involving violations of criminal law related to DHS personnel in the private sector, contractor, programs and assets.
