About the Role

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Training and Development, Field Operations Canine Academy, in Front Royal, VA.

What You'll Do

  • Temporary/ Rotational Assignment: To meet agency needs, this position will be filled on a temporary basis not-to-exceed (NTE) 3 years, with possible extensions for an additional 2 years in 1 year increments.
  • You may be returned, at any time, to the position from which temporarily promoted, or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay, and the return is not subject to the procedures found in 5 C.F.R. §§ 351, 432, 752, and 771.
  • If you are currently at the grade level of the position announced, this action will result in a reassignment, and you may be returned at any time to a same or similar position held prior to this temporary assignment.
  • If you currently hold a grade level higher than the grade being announced, this action will result in a change to lower grade, and you may be returned at any time to the position held prior to this temporary assignment or to the same or similar position at the lower grade level.
  • The Field Operations Canine Academy delivers formal canine training to international, federal, state, and local agencies promoting the United States Government's objectives in anti-terrorism, border security, customs, immigration, and facilitation of legitimate trade and travel.
  • As a resource center, FOCA provides guidance on canine training issues, legal requirements, and certification standards to the Office of Field Operations." This position starts at a salary of $147,899.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $192,275.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $192,275.00GS-14Step 10).
  • In this Second-Line Supervisory position you will be providing administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.
  • Major Duties may include but are not limited to: Communicating policies, procedures, and regulations to subordinate supervisors, instructors, and trainees, to ensure appropriate implementation.
  • Reviewing current policies to ensure relevance and effectiveness; creating and implementing new policies as necessary; and comparing and reporting budget requirements for training programs.
  • Representing the agency in meetings and negotiations regarding training, with representatives of public and private organizations and with other government officials; and continual monitoring of training requirements.
  • Scheduling and assigning training, special projects, and curriculum development activities to unit personnel.
  • Guiding employees in prioritizing tasks with competing deadlines and balancing the needs of varied stakeholders.
  • If going from a LEO Covered Position to a Secondary CBPO Special Retirement Covered (SRC) Position: Please be advised that when you enter on duty in this Secondary CBPO SRC position you will no longer be covered under the Special Retirement System for Law Enforcement Officers, but will only be covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S.
  • Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess the Ability to operate a Government Owned Vehicle.
  • A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required.
