What You'll Do
- →This position is located within the Department of the Interior, U.S.
- →Wildland Fire Service, Aviation Operations and Management Division, in Anchorage, Alaska.
- →Directs, supervises, and evaluates aviation safety inspectors, inspector-mechanics, lead mechanics, and support personnel engaged in aircraft maintenance, alteration, inspection, and airworthiness activities supporting wildland fire and all-hazard aviation operations.
- →Exercises delegated authority to evaluate aircraft airworthiness, review and approve maintenance documentation and alteration records, and ensure maintenance activities comply with FAA regulations, manufacturer technical data, and agency aviation policy.
- →Plans, coordinates, and oversees aircraft maintenance, repair, inspection, and alteration activities conducted at fixed facilities and remote field locations under dynamic and time-sensitive operational conditions.
- →Develops, implements, and oversees aviation maintenance safety, occupational health, quality assurance, and risk management programs to ensure safe maintenance operations and regulatory compliance.
- →Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR/COTR) for aviation maintenance and support contracts, monitoring contractor performance, technical compliance, and acquisition activities involving complex aviation assets and services.
- →Manages aviation maintenance resources including high-value aircraft parts inventories, specialized shop equipment, maintenance facilities, government property, and financial tracking systems to support mission readiness and operational continuity.
- →Provides expert technical advice and policy recommendations to senior leadership, interagency partners, contractors, and aviation stakeholders regarding aviation maintenance operations, airworthiness requirements, emerging technologies, and aviation safety matters.

- →Wildland Fire Service has determined that the duties of this position has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
- →Salary Range Information (Per Annum): GS-14: $142,216 (step 1) - $184,886 (step 10) per year.
- →First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level.
- →This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.
