The Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in overseeing operations of a nursing unit/patient care area. Fosters team development, ensures compliance with standards of clinical practice, and serves as a key liaison between staff and leadership. This role combines clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities and is often considered part of the succession plan for future NM positions, providing development opportunities to prepare for higher-level leadership.
What You'll Do
- →The Supervisory ANM is typically responsible for assisting the NM but is not responsible for independently carrying out the expectations of a NM on a routine basis.
- →Exercises the authority to direct work, assign duties, evaluate employee performance, recommend employee awards, approve or deny leave, recall employees to duty, propose discipline, and to adjust their grievances, or to effectively recommend such proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision.
- →Duties include but are not limited to: Uses the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with the Teamlet (Patient, Primary Care Provider, RN Care Coordinator and Patient Support Technician) and Larger Team (family/caregiver, internal and community-based services involved in providing care to the patient) in developing the patient-centered care plan for life.
- →Collaborates with services internal and external to the VA to facilitate care transition in order to effectively meet the patients' needs.
- →Provides patient and family health education with a focus on self-management, prevention, and wellness, based on the patient's goals.
- →Demonstrates leadership by serving as an advocate for patients, team player to colleagues as she/he continues to enhance his/her own and the team's professional growth, development, and practice.
- →Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge in assessing planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating care for a designated group of patients across the continuum of care: Recognizing the age related cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and geriatric patient.
- →Participates in interdisciplinary opportunities to improve patient care at the program level.
- →Provides oversight to the functions of Nursing in the PACT teamlet.
- →Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others; in executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.
- →Applies skills necessary to identify, coordinate, and/or identify discipline-specific education, as well as training in leadership, professional staff development and emerging needs, to all levels of staff.
- →Provides oversight for the administration of leave, counseling, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. - Acts as the Nurse Manager during times of Nurse Manager absences.
- →The Assistant Nurse Manager works in collaboration with the Clinic Medical Director to provide oversight for clinical, administrative, and operational needs.
- →Implements action plans to assure performance measures are met to improve organizational performance.
Requirements
