About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

  • A key component of this role is the academic partnership with Washington University in St.
  • The Section Chief must have advanced fellowship training in Reconstruction, Shoulder & Elbow, Sports Medicine, Orthopedic Trauma, or Adult Hip & Knee and be eligible for and maintain a faculty appointment at Washington University.
  • The Chief of Orthopedic Surgery serves as the senior physician leader responsible for the oversight, coordination, and advancement of orthopedic surgical services within the Surgical Service at the VA St.
  • Louis Health Care System.
  • The Section Chief provides strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, Veteran-centered orthopedic care while fostering a culture of professionalism, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Orthopedic Surgery Section, ensuring high-quality, Veteran-centered care.
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient, inpatient, and operative orthopedic surgical care, including consultations, pre- and post-operative management, and performance of a full range of procedures within subspecialty expertise.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 2-year trial period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
