About the Role

The VA St. Louis Health Care System is recruiting a board-certified Colorectal Surgeon whose primary focus is comprehensive colorectal surgical care for benign and malignant diseases, with general surgery minimally invasive support based on patient care needs.

  • Louis Health Care System is recruiting a board-certified Colorectal Surgeon whose primary focus is comprehensive colorectal surgical care for benign and malignant diseases, with general surgery minimally invasive support based on patient care needs.
  • Responsibilities include outpatient, inpatient, operative care, general surgery call, and trainee education.
  • Must be eligible for faculty appointment with an established academic affiliate of VASTLHCS.
  • Clinical Responsibilities: Outpatient Care: Provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of Veterans with benign and malignant colorectal conditions as the primary clinical focus.
  • Provides general surgery outpatient care as needed based on patient care demands and section needs.
  • Performs in-clinic procedures including high-resolution anoscopy and interventions for HPV-related disease.
  • Collaborates with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), residents, trainees, and nursing staff to ensure efficient clinic operations and continuity of care.
  • Inpatient Care: Manages hospitalized patients with colorectal surgical conditions as the primary inpatient focus.
  • Provides general surgery inpatient coverage and consultations as required by patient care needs.
  • Collaborates with other surgical and medical teams for co-management of complex cases.
  • Operative Care: Performs the full spectrum of colorectal surgeries using open, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques as the core operative responsibility.
  • Provides minimally invasive and open general surgery operative support dependent on patient care needs and section coverage requirements.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 2-year trial period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
