About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • The Section of Allergy and Immunology at the Salisbury VA HealthCare Center, a complexity 1a facility, is seeking a physician with training and expertise in adult Allergy and Immunology medicine to provide ambulatory clinical services primarily at Salisbury VAMC and the Kernersville Healthcare Center.
  • The medicine specialty program consists of a broad array of services with over 100 specialists and consistently ranked in the top 10 by volume of encounters in the VHA.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to: Administrative: Serves as acting chief of the section (if appropriate), as needed.
  • Provides guidance and support to the nurse practitioners assigned to Medicine Service in their respective areas of expertise.
  • Provides guidance and supervision for the medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to Medicine Service/subspecialty services and clinics according to the standards outlined in Center Policy Memorandum, 11-4, «supervision of Postgraduate Residents," when assigned to do so by the Chief, Medicine Service.
  • Participates in and attends medical center committees and/or teams as assigned by the Chief Medicine Service and in his/her absence.
  • Participates in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by Chief, Medicine Service.
  • Clinical: Provides quality patient-centered patient care to both inpatients and outpatients for adults age 18-65 and older adults age 65+ as assigned by Chief, Medicine Service.
  • Maintains clinical privileges in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Medicine Services.
  • Demonstrate sound decision making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians.
  • Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management.
  • Serves as staff attending for sub-specialty consult service as assigned.
  • Academic: (Applies only to staff physicians with Wake Forest faculty appointments.) Participates in the formal education of the residents, fellows and medical students by presenting teaching rounds, lectures, conferences, etc.
  • Participates in grading sessions for medical students and GME trainees assigned to their services.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
