About the Role

The Veteran Justice Outreach Social Worker is a Senior Social Worker whose position is located in the Social Work Service at the Chillicothe VAMC, Chillicothe, Ohio. The primary responsibilities are to provide continuous quality improvement activities, evaluation/consultation, placement services, treatment matching sessions, and referral and linkage to various community agencies for Veterans who are being monitored by the courts, including treatment or specialty courts.

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for clinical programming and daily operation of the program, as well as the management of program data.
  • Coordinate administrative, patient, and personnel activities for this program and with VA and non-VA employment providers and Community Employment Coordinator to assure access and ongoing employment services as needed.
  • Develop processes for verifying the Veteran status and VHA eligibility of justice involved Veterans.
  • Identify VA and non-VA resources that can assist justice-involved Veterans with their community stabilization process.
  • Provide outreach to Veterans in prison and jail settings.
  • Provide referrals and directly link Veterans to VA resources, including Vet Centers, to the extent the Veteran is eligible.
  • Conduct correspondence with incarcerated Veterans and other involved parties (e.g., corrections, parole, probation, family) as needed.
  • Provide case management as needed to coordinate treatment with VA services and other involved institutions, including parole and probation.
  • Coordinate with the national network of VJP Specialists to ensure continuity of care for justice-involved Veterans released to communities and states that are far distant from the facility where they are incarcerated.
  • Accompany and transport Veterans to appointments and other community resources as needed.
  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
  • When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
