About the Role

Position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. What You'll Do

  • PCMHI/Behavioral Health visits are brief (generally 20-30 minutes), limited in number (1-6 visits), & are provided in the primary care practice area, structured so that the Veterans view meeting with the social worker as a routine primary care service.
  • The senior social worker functions within fast-paced primary care teams & can expect to consult with 8-10 Veterans per day with the primary goals of assisting primary care with identification, treatment, & management of mental health & behavioral medicine conditions in the enrolled population.
  • The incumbent functions as the primary referral source for CBOC for Veteran's presenting with suicidal or homicidal ideation or altered mental status, & potentially requiring emergency hospitalization & emergent involuntary commitment.
  • The Social work provides professional, advance practice social work services in the CBOC PCMHI/ACT Senior Social Worker position.
  • A senior social worker practices in a major program area & is assigned administrative responsibilities for clinical program development & is accountable for clinical program effectiveness & modification of service patterns.
  • The incumbent may serve on committees, work groups, and task forces at VASLCHCS, the VISN 19, national level, and/or in the community, as approved by their supervisor.
  • The incumbent establishes & maintains ongoing education programs for Veterans, community agencies, students, & staff, to facilitate understanding of social work interventions specific to CBOC PCMHI/ACT.
  • The Elko PCMHI/ACT Senior Social Worker provides functional assessment, crisis intervention, education, and consultative services regarding a wide range of mental health & behavioral medicine concerns, on referral from primary care providers & allied PACT members.
  • The assessment will be utilized to support the treatment planning and to identify needs and wants of Veterans.

  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
