About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

  • The Senior Social Worker position is a non-supervisory position that reports to the Program Coordinator, Supervisory Social Worker, or Chief of Social Work or designee(s).
  • Key Responsibilities Provide advanced clinical psychosocial and case management services for Veterans in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including those experiencing frequent crises or limited support systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments through interviews with Veterans and families to identify presenting problems, causes, and impacts on overall functioning.
  • Deliver supportive counseling and case management to promote stability and reduce stress throughout the treatment process.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement safe and effective discharge plans.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement efforts, and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of community resources, healthcare regulations, and established social work best practices.
  • Document clinical assessments, interventions, and care plans accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate clinical data to identify needs, strengths, risk factors, acuity levels, and appropriate treatment options using advanced clinical judgment.
  • Serve as a liaison for the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center's Department of Social Work in delivering specialized mental health and case management services.
  • Support treatment team assignments and consult with specialists to coordinate care for Veterans with co-morbid conditions.
  • Educate and guide Veterans and families on available resources, treatment options, and effective coping strategies.
  • Assess Veteran health education needs and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to address them.
