About the Role
James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital is looking for Senior Social Worker - Caregiver Support Program who will report to Social Work Services within Caregiver Support Program. This position is located at Tampa VA Medical Center.
What You'll Do
- →Senior Social Worker Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PCAFC GS-0185-12 The CSP Senior Social Worker duties include, but are not limited to: The Senior Social Worker is assigned to the Caregiver Support Program.
- →This position is primarily responsible for assessing a Veteran's functional needs, including the need for personal care services using standardized assessments-which will assist the Centralized Eligibility and Appeal Teams (CEAT) in determining eligibility.
- →The incumbent will assess Veterans needs for personal care services, particularly Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), supervision, protection or instruction, working closely with the Caregiver Support Program Coordinator(s) and/or designee(s), to complete Veteran functional assessments and re-assessments.
- →The incumbent will also assist other program staff in providing clinical services, completing notes and gathering/monitoring data related to the day -to-day functioning and evaluation of the program.
- →The incumbent is responsible for conducting regular home visits to Veterans and Caregivers participating in the PCAFC, responds to calls from the National Caregiver Support Hotline, responds to other phone calls and general inquiries regarding the CSP, and assists with general tasks associated with the program.
- →The incumbent advises and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams throughout the medical center on caregiver issues.
- →They are responsible for creating educational tools, developing programs, and implementing training focused on specific caregiver needs/issues and providing education and in-service training to VAMC employees, Veterans, families, and caregivers.
- →They also provide ongoing consultation and support to colleagues regarding caregiver support services and issues facing Veterans, families and their caregivers.
- →The incumbent demonstrates skill in communication and can develop positive, effective relationships with all CSP stakeholders including Veterans, caregivers, local, state, and federal agencies, as well as non-governmental organizations.
- →They provide referrals to VA medical and mental health treatment and to other VA services including VA benefits, as well as community-based social services and other non-VA entitlement programs.
- →If appropriate, they provide referrals or consults, and in some cases facilitate direct admission of a Veteran to other VA programs including but not limited to the Community Residential Care Program, Respite Program, Community Health Care Coordination Program, Hospice, Home Based Primary Care, Telehealth, and the Community Nursing Home Program.
- →They are responsible for serving as a consultant for navigating the complex processes caregivers, Veterans, and their families encounter when interacting with government and community agencies.
- →The incumbent stays informed regarding current federal and state legislation directed at assisting caregivers to continue to provide caregiving in an environment that is safe for both themselves and the Veteran.
- →They serve as a liaison between the VA and community agencies.
Requirements
- ✓NOTE: Prior to accepting a final employment offer, all selected applicants will be required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding regarding deployment responsibilities.
- ✓Meets the qualification standard for the GS 12 Senior Social Worker as defined in See VA Handbook 5005, Part II Appendix G39, Social Worker Qualification Standard GS- 185 Veterans Health Administration.
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
