About the Role

This vacancy is for a GS - 2101 - 13, Senior Merchant Mariner Course Evaluator (Engine) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, NMC MARINER COURSE APPROVALS BRANCH in Location Negotiable After Selection, United States.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as a Senior Merchant Mariner Course Evaluator (Engine) and be responsible for serving as the senior "Engine" maritime subject matter expert.
  • The incumbent conducts analytical studies to maintain valid Coast Guard approval standards for mariner training, licensing, and documentation.
  • In this capacity, th incumbent will evaluate public training submissions and evaluator proficiency while collaborating to develop Coast Guard policies for National and STCW endorsements.

  • Typical work assignments include: Evaluating the maritime technical subject matter of course and program curricula..
  • Evaluating the maritime technical competence and proficiency of individuals applying to be approved as instructors, Qualified Assessors (QAs), and/or Designated Examiners (DEs)..
  • Providing recommendations for improving the course approval process based on knowledge of governing regulations and policies.
  • Preparing authoritative and explicit responses to governmental agency and public inquiries concerning training qualifications of merchant vessel personnel.
