About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor provides advanced clinical services to the Substance Use Disorders BHIP/MAT clinics and exercises full professional responsibility to provide effective services to Veterans with a wide range of addictive and co-occurring psychological disorders.
  • Duties include but are not limited to: Provides and/or coordinates therapeutic/clinical activities to include screening, clinical assessment, individual, group, collateral family counseling/therapy, and psychoeducational sessions in the Substance Use Disorders Outpatient program.
  • Meet with individual Veteran and their families in counseling, as appropriate.
  • Makes provision for referral services to other agency or organizations, community resources (i.e., halfway house, shelter) or other governmental resources to resolve problems.
  • Acts as liaison between various treatment programs with the Mental Health Service in providing education, counseling, and treatment recommendations for patient cases, according to program-specific criteria.
  • Treatment planning decisions are based on the counselor's advanced professional judgement with regards to the individual's rehabilitative potential and possible consequences (harm to individual or family) in the absence of rehabilitative effort.
