About the Role

The Security Assistant provides vital physical security and dispatch support for VA Police Services. They monitor alarm and video systems, coordinate emergency responses, and manage visitor/vehicle registration. By maintaining accurate logs and accessing law enforcement databases, they facilitate efficient field operations, mitigate security risks, and ensure the orderly flow of information between police units, agency leadership, and the workforce.

What You'll Do

  • Primary Duties Physical Security Support: Monitors alarm and access control systems, manages user permissions, assesses on-scene behavior, and dispatches personnel for fire, medical, or security emergencies.
  • Communications Management: Processes routine and emergency calls, coordinates with federal/local law enforcement, and directs responses to incidents while maintaining accurate logs and records.
  • Operations Support: Troubleshoots dispatch center equipment, conducts inventory, and manages sensitive databases-including the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC)-to support field investigations.
  • Administrative Security: Operates vehicle and visitor management programs, maintains key and badge accountability, and prepares detailed reports on security incidents and operations.
