About the Role

This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS), with one vacancy in Oswego, NY. This position is also announced under vacancy number NOS ONMS-26-13004504-DE, which is open to all US Citizens or Nationals. What You'll Do

  • As a Sanctuary Superintendent, you will perform the following duties: Carry out policies and purposes of the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, relevant presidential proclamations, executive orders, and oversee development of plans and programs for both short and long time frames to conserve, protect, enhance, restore, investigate, and manage sanctuary resources through research and outreach.
  • Coordinate with local, regional and national organizations and partners to promote Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and NOAA priorities, and ensure adherence to applicable regulations and authorities.
  • Perform planning, direction, and timely execution of programs and administrative and operational program elements in areas such as budget and field operations.
  • Participate in decision or exercise of significant judgment in Government action regarding contracting or procurement; the administration or monitoring of grants, licenses, subsidies, or other benefits, regulation and auditing of a non-Federal entity, and/or making a final decision or taking action, which will have a direct and substantial economic effect on the interests of a non-Federal entity.
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the operation of a Federal motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a government vehicle.
  • Incumbent will need to travel to a variety of regional locations, meet with collaborators, and participate in community or scientific presentations, meetings and discussions.
  • CONDITION OF EMPLOYMNET: SCUBA certification may be required.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position has physical requirements.
  • The incumbent may be required to stand for long periods of time, and bend/stoop and lift up to 40 lbs unassisted during such work.
  • May require participation in fieldwork.
  • Fieldwork may require the incumbent to walk and work for several hours along unpaved shorelines or work on research vessels in the marine offshore environment.

Requirements

  • This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS).
  • Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band.
  • The ZA-4 is equivalent to the GS-13/14.
  • Key Requirements: Applicants must be U.S.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.

  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable (www.sss.gov) Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

  • This position requires a Moderate Risk Security Clearance.
  • Background investigation will be required.
