About the Role

This position serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager (Safety Manager) for the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, including Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), Vet Centers, off-station administrative and storage areas, and Fleet vehicles.

What You'll Do

  • Duties includes but are not limited to: Responsible for organizing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and enforcing the VA Medical Center's Safety and Occupational Health Programs.
  • Responsible for coordinating the staff involved with Safety and Occupational health to ensure that the programs are developed and implemented in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and VA Medical Center policy and guidance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Safety and Occupational Health Programs result in finding and conclusions that lead to continual improvement of safety programs at the VA Medical Center Provides leadership and direction to management, professional, and technical personnel regarding the development and implementation of a Medical Center Safety and Occupational Health Program.
  • Organizes implements, oversees and provides technical assistance for projects to resolve Safety and Occupational Health programs.
  • Provides technical expertise for the design, modification, operation and maintenance of the VA Medical Center facilities and infrastructure to ensure compliance with external regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and implement Safety and Occupational Health policies, procedures and systems.
  • Advise management on how Safety and Occupational Health policies, procedures and systems will affect the operation of the VA Medical Center.
  • Work within a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • The Safety Manager must support the Fire/Life Safety, Emergency Preparedness, IH and Green Environmental Management System (GEMS) programs, which includes serving as a backup contact on the absence of the other Safety Section Program Managers.
  • Other tasks/duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00AM - 4:30PM Telework: This position may be authorized for Ad-Hoc.
