Serves as an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist (OSHS) for the Flight Standards (FS) Organization with overall responsibility for compliance with federal, state and local Occupational Safety and Health regulations. Incumbent reports to FS Foundational Business, FS Programs Branch.
What You'll Do
- →Performs multiple, and varying assignments under the limited direction of a manager, program manager, or more experienced professional.
- →Resolves most problems and work issues without the assistance of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional.
- →Analyzes jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the risks to employees.
- →Recommends modifications to workplaces to control or eliminate hazards.
- →Inspects or surveys workplaces for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.
- →Conducts occupational safety evaluation of hazardous conditions and develops, recommends and assists with implementing abatement plans.
- →Applies experience and advanced knowledge applicable to his/her discipline to plan and accomplish assignments.
- →Assignments may require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines.
- →Typical assignments may include tracking and analyzing data to ensure compliance with policies and procedures; providing guidance to less-experienced professionals in day-to-day operations; identifying, analyzing, and recommending solutions for complex/difficult problems; and recommending improvements to systems and processes.
- →Demonstrates considerable independence in planning time and helping managers or program managers to plan and use assigned resources to accomplish projects/programs/activities.
- →May identify and request additional resources, as needed.
- →Assists in providing scopes of work for contract resources required to implement specific aspects of EOSH program operations.
- →Contacts typically are internal and external, with regular contacts among major subdivisions and LOB's/SA's, customers, and other external parties to share information about the FAA and explain the applications of policies and procedures.
- →Policies/procedures provide guidance for most assignments but allow considerable discretion for employee to select the most appropriate approach(es) or recommend new approaches.
