The Registered Nurse (RN)Operating Room (OR) Educator is a Perioperative Registered Nurse with strong scientific knowledge and advanced clinical and technical expertise. Serving as a consultant and resource in the OR specialty, the Educator supports nursing initiatives and the broader nursing strategic plan. The role functions as 75% Educator and 25% Staff Nurse, blending clinical practice with education to promote high-quality perioperative care.
What You'll Do
- →The Registered Nurse - OR Educator participates in the development and implementation of nursing education and programs that support progressive advancement in perioperative nursing practice.
- →The OR Educator serves as a change agent, promoting innovative, evidence-based approaches that strengthen quality outcomes in the Operating Room.
- →Working collaboratively with the unit's nursing management team, the Educator helps guide staff development, practice improvement, and clinical excellence.
- →Duties include but not limited to the following: Works collaboratively with unit supervisors in assessing, developing, and maintaining staff's competencies to ensure provision of quality perioperative nursing care.
- →Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs/activities based on assessed learning needs of staff according to the current AORN Standards And Recommended Practices and other regulatory bodies.
- →Provides consultation and education to OR staff in orientation, cross-training, equipment, Mandatory Review, BCLS, and continuing education.
- →Continuously applies and provides a solid foundation of knowledge regarding regulatory standards, laws, and VHA policies and procedures for supported staff.
- →Demonstrates leadership through the development and coordination of programs to improve quality of care and organizational processes.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
