About the Role
Pulmonary services are under the Specialty Medicine Service Line at the Fargo VA Health Care System. Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) provide inpatient and outpatient services to all patient care areas. The RRT is aware of the strategic plan and functions as an integral member of the organization. They plan, organize, and coordinate services while assisting the Supervisory RRT with process improvement.
What You'll Do
- →The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers.

- →Major duties include but are not limited to: Maintain ACLS and BLS certifications as outlined in VHA Directive 1177.
- →Maintain level 2 provider NORAM status as outlined in VHA Directive 1157 and local HR-45.SOP.1157(1) (437-123).
- →Initiate invasive and non-invasive ventilation modalities.
- →Manage maintenance and weaning strategies via patient assessment and blood gas collection/analysis.
- →Initiate RT driven protocols to determine appropriate therapy for medication management, lung expansion, pulmonary hygiene, oxygen therapy, and ventilation.
- →Document in electronic medical records such as the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA), IntelliSpace Critical Care and Anesthesia (ICCA) accurately and promptly.
- →Knowledge and skill in outpatient respiratory testing and therapies such as home ventilation devices, pulmonary function tests, nocturnal desaturation or apnea studies, chronic respiratory disease management and education.
- →Consistent with safe equipment and practice standards to include reprocessing of reusable medical equipment.
- →Work Schedule: 7:00pm to 7:00am Monday, Wednesday, Friday with every other Thursday or 6:45am to 7:15pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday with every other Monday 6:45am to 3:15pm.
