About the Role

The Domiciliary Mental Health (MH) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care. The domiciliary RN provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with substance use disorder and/or MH conditions. The domiciliary RN actively participates in MH interdisciplinary treatment team, patient safety and environment of care rounds, and responds to psychiatric and medical care needs as directed.

What You'll Do

  • The primary responsibilities of this Registered Nurse may vary by assignment.
  • Those duties may include but not limited to: Deliver professional practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) with general supervision.
  • Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks ensuring assigned delegated tasks are completed by team members.
  • Provide Veteran/patient driven care by optimizing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for assigned patients.
  • Communicate and collaborate as an effective member of the interprofessional team, demonstrating progression from team member to team leader.
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to achieve optimal function through assessment and treatment of their health enhancing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate confidently with members of the healthcare team and demonstrate professional behaviors that promotes cooperation and teamwork.
  • Seeks knowledge and learning opportunities that support current nursing practice and self-evaluation.
  • Applies evidence-based practice/research, considering patient preferences to improve quality of care and resource utilization for assigned patients.
  • Seek out new learning opportunities and share evidence-based practice/research with peers to improve patient care.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
