About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →The PACU/Same day surgery unit (SDSU)/Pre-Operative RN is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
- →Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self management, and continuum of care.
- →Major Duties: Documents patient data during pre-surgical assessment and the Phase I and Phase II recovery period.
- →Administers medications, including ACLS medications and anticoagulants utilizing all safety precautions.
- →Conducts quality control procedures on equipment as required.
- →Follows strict adherence to sterile technique, infection control, and safety practices.
- →Transports patients pre-and post-procedure.
- →Participates in maintaining a clean environment.
- →Participates in ordering and maintenance of adequate inventory of supple inventory.
- →Participates in policy and procedure formation, maintains current knowledge of the Joint Commission and VA requirements, and significantly contributes to annual proficiency data.
- →Participates in assigned Hospital Committees and collegial teaching to staff, both student and professional staff in the peri-operative nursing.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

- ✓Nursing education must be from a school of professional nursing accredited by one of the following accrediting organizations at the time the program was completed by the applicant: (a) The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326.
- ✓The ACEN accredits all levels of nursing programs, including clinical doctorate, masters/post-master's certificate, baccalaureate, associate and diploma nursing education programs.
