About the Role

The Nurse Manager of Primary Care is first line supervisory authority, s/he responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operations of their units under their responsibility, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted Patient Alignment Care Team (PACT) standards.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible for and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and creating innovative process improvement initiatives.
  • Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
  • Designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed.
  • The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
  • Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
  • Enhances care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
  • Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
  • Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Promotes alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
  • Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable patient care.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
