About the Role
The primary purpose of the Intravenous Therapy Nurse RN position is to demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaboration strategies with others to provide comprehensive nursing care to the patients assigned. The Intravenous Therapy RN provides comprehensive intravenous therapy to patients who are either in an inpatient or outpatient status.
What You'll Do
- →Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Demonstrate clinical competence in performing comprehensive intravenous therapy to patients who are either in an inpatient or outpatient status.
- →Perform initial assessment of patients requiring intravenous therapy, inserts or reinserts peripheral intravenous catheters, inserts.
- →Manage Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) and midline catheters, assesses indwelling ports, and conducts all routine maintenance for central lines in the facility.
- →Document in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), providing intravenous catheter site care, completion of blood sampling from central catheters, and assessment of existing intravenous lines for signs and symptoms of phlebitis and infection.
- →Provide extensive education and training to patients and families, the nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary team on intravenous therapy and management.
- →Utilizes elements of performance including knowledge and active participation in unit level quality improvement processes, such as the customer service program.
- →Promote the medical center mission, vision and values; compiles the Equal Employment Opportunity programs, partnerships, customer service standards and Veterans Affairs policies and procedures.
- →Any other duties as assigned by the assigned rater and approving supervisors.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
