The Recreation Therapist is a member of the Black Hills VAHCS and is located at the Fort Meade VAMC. The incumbent assumes responsibility for one or more of the specialty treatment areas of GECR, which include the following specialty programs: Palliative/Hospice Care, sub-acute rehab, respite, acute psych, Living Skills in Action, and long term care.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include, but are not limited to: Planning, integrating, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the recreation therapy programs provided for treatment to patients in long term care.
- →Developing, organizing and administering recreation therapy programs to provide services to patients from the following areas or diagnosis: Geropsychiatry, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Alcohol and Drug Treatment, Extended Care and outpatients with a variety of medical/psychiatric diagnoses.
- →Requests consultations for patient's treatment as needed from the attending physician and is responsible for interviewing, observing, assessing and evaluating the patient and making appropriate recommendations for treatment programs.
- →Assembles assessments, interprets medical record information, reviews therapy prescriptions and conducts mental, physical, cognitive, social and emotional assessment of patients in order to develop and implement the treatment plan.
- →Keeps team members (occupational therapist, dietitians, physical therapist, physicians, nurses, social workers, etc.) informed of the patient's condition and progress.
- →Maintains contact with community agencies and individuals to seek information concerning community leisure resources and opportunities.
- →Demonstrate professional knowledge of a wide range of theories, principles, concepts, procedure and techniques of recreation therapy to accomplish the maximum rehabilitation of difficult, mixed diagnostic categories of patients with complex medical, physical, behavioral, and mental deficiencies.
- →Teaches a variety of leisure lifestyle skills, constructive use of leisure time, leisure time planning skills, and community leisure resources and services.
- →Work Schedule: Monday - Friday with possible Saturday, 7:00am - 4:30pm.
- →Once a week 10:15am - 7:00pm.
