About the Role

The Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Program Manager serves as the professional leader of the PCMHI Program with an emphasis on integration of mental health services within primary care. They are directly responsible for the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of treatment program operations. PCMHI Program Manager is administratively within the Mental Health Service Line, with primary assignment to the PCMHI program located within primary care.

What You'll Do

  • Duties include, but are not limited to: Duties of this position consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and variety, including broad oversight and coordination of PCMHI services and interdisciplinary staff assigned to PCMHI.
  • Functions as a member of the mental health leadership team collaborating with multiple service lines, disciplines, and frontline clinicians, exercising wide latitude and independent judgement for resource allocation, program design, and quality control.
  • Maintains oversight and responsibility for the professional practice of all staff serving within the PCMHI section, including services conducted by trainees, consultants, and paraprofessional staff.
  • Direct administrative supervision of subordinates: PCMHI psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, registered nurses and other designated staff.
  • Responsibilities are complex in scope and constitute a significant contribution to healthcare system operations.
  • Resolves staff conflicts and internal/external customer complaints at the lowest possible levels.
  • Has line and staff authority for resource allocations within the area of responsibility.
  • Provides a full range of PCMHI clinical services, including functional assessments, brief interventions, measurement-based care, and population-based, collaborative practice as part of PACT.
  • Provides liaison to programs and services throughout the continuum of mental health or other healthcare services on behalf of the PCMHI section; advises relevant stakeholders concerning the need for and development of clinical services.
  • Member of the Office of Mental Health Operations External Facilitation Team for PCMHI in the role of Subject Matter Expert.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and consultation on staff education and development.
  • Orients, teaches, and consults with healthcare system staff and trainees to promote understanding of PCMHI operations and integrated mental health care approaches.
  • With appropriate institutional review, may advise, consult, plan, conduct, or oversee completion of research, quality improvement efforts, or other endeavors designed to provide information regarding outcomes, strategic planning, resource allocation, treatment approaches, and/or population care needs.
  • May present outcome data/research results at local VA and national scientific meetings.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
