About the Role

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network (VISN 6), Durham, NC Health Care System (HCS), Garner VA Clinic. This position is located under the Office of the Chief, Anesthesiology Service. The Garner VA Clinic is a newly established facility, approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to expand access to healthcare services for Veterans in Wake and surrounding North Carolina counties

What You'll Do

  • Duties include but are not limited to: The position is responsible for constant program monitoring, evaluation, and planning to ensure the efficient utilization based upon constantly changing and ever-increasing program demands.
  • Provides administrative oversight and support, which includes management of the program/service and day-to-day operational plans, data analysis, quality assurance, and process improvement.
  • The incumbent is the liaison and handles communication with persons and/or groups within and outside of the organization on administrative matters pertaining to the program/service.
  • The incumbent of this position oversees and/or drafts a variety of action items and responses.
  • Examines outgoing correspondence for completeness and accuracy, proper composition, proper formatting, compliance with current VA policies, instructions, and regulations, and the viewpoint(s) expressed.
  • This position serves as the primary Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC) responsibilities in addition to Automated Information System (AIS) duties include assisting Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) in the resolution of software errors of end users.
  • The Program Specialist serves as the back-up to the Administrative Support Assistant as a Personal Identification Verification (PIV) Manager/Sponsor.
  • Responsibilities include completing the application for issuance of PIV cards using the VA PIV Enrollment Portal website, ensuring employees have up-to-date Special Agreement Check (SAC)/National Agency Check w/Inquiries (NACI) information, and assisting employees with scheduling appointments with the local PIV office to expedite issuance of the PIV card.
  • Attends all required training associated with the PIV program.
  • Maintain PIV renewal dates for employees within the service/program and notify as appropriate.
  • This position ensures that quality assurance issues pertaining to the assigned sections within Anesthesiology are documented & followed up on for resolution.
  • Assesses patient satisfaction, quality management issues, stakeholders' affairs, budget control issues, utilization reviews, and current/proposed short/long range planning.
  • Manages clinic scheduling to maximize access to clinics for new Veteran patients.
  • Manages Decision Support System (DSS) to maximize the capture of Physician productivity data and workload.
