About the Role

This vacancy is for a GS-0301-11, Program Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, COMMUNITY RELATIONS DIVISION -CG-09231 in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as a Program Specialist and as a member of the COMREL team and be responsible for the operations, logistics, public outreach and event coordination for various Coast Guard programs, events, and activities.
  • Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
  • Typical work assignments include: Planning and/or accomplishing a variety of special projects and events for the Office of External Outreach to maintain effective relationships with the public, including industry representatives, influential stakeholders, national service organizations, and representatives from the print and broadcast news media nationwide.
  • Maintaining liaison with certain national service-related organizations.
  • Processing special White House opportunities for Coast Guard personnel in coordination with Base NCR.
  • Establishing and maintaining liaison and working relationships with Federal public affairs contacts within the Coast Guard, the Department of Homeland Security and its components, within the Department of Defense, and in other Federal agencies.
  • Making arrangements for national conferences, meetings, seminars, programs, and special events.
  • Managing and/or preparing responses to correspondence from within and outside the agency.
  • Assisting the art curator in conducting periodic inventories and surveying the condition of the collection of more than 1,500 valuable pieces of artwork.
  • Serving as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for Community Relations program contracts.
  • Providing information, advice and consultation in travel, training, personnel and electronic document management system.
  • Selecting and organizing materials written by others for publication, report, or analysis.
  • Responsible for coordinating revisions and then publishing office policy and procedures, including the Standard Operating Procedures, the Continuity of Operations Plan, ALCOAST messages, and the Coast Guard External Affairs Manual.
  • Accurately maintaining electronically processed Time and Leave records for the CG-092 office staff in the GOVTA system.
