About the Role

This vacancy is for a GS-0301-09, Program Specialist (Environmental Response Team) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard National Response Center (CG-NRC) in Washington, District of Columbia.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as a Program Specialist (Environmental Response Team) and be responsible for serving as the sole federal point of contact for the reporting of all pollution, railroad, and port security incidents occurring in the United States and its territories.
  • The primary purpose of of the National response Center (NRC) is to collect, coordinate, analyze, and manage environmental response, maritime security, and railroad incident information in order to reduce catastrophic impact on human life and the environment.
  • Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
  • Typical work assignments include: The collection and dissemination of a variety of incident reports consisting of environmental pollution reports, security/suspicious activity reports, and railroad incidents.
  • Serving as the unit representative when attending national training-related meetings and workshops to promote or explain environmental, maritime security, and railroad operations policies, procedures and operations as they relate to the National Response Center (NRC).
  • Monitoring various environmental and intelligence network systems and coordinating and disseminating approximately 31,000 incident reports to federal state local and tribal entities anywhere in the United States and its territories.
  • Working collaboratively with other watch standers to ensure equal distribution of the workload and providing training and instruction for the accomplishment of tasks or projects.
