About the Role

You will serve as a PRODUCTION CONTROLLER (SHIPBUILDING) in the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair Department of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING GROTON.

What You'll Do

  • You will be responsible for the initiation, coordination and control of all phases associated with the construction, alteration, modernization and repair of all submarines or projects assigned.
  • You will review ship and/or system specs, contract plans, basic contracts, HQ Modification Requests, Field Modification Requests, schedules, test forms, contractor and government procedures, tech reports, Engineering Reports, and correspondence.
  • You will coordinate communications relative to the identification of all deficiencies, assign responsibility for corrective action, and initiate work authorization for those items deemed to be the responsibility of the government to correct.
  • You will attend various conferences/meetings convened periodically, such as PSA problem conferences; GMI conferences, shipbuilder construction meetings, NAVSEA program review meetings, and noise conferences, in order to monitor work progress.
  • You will anticipate potential problems in time to allow corrective action and to protect the interests of the government and contractor to the work being performed, frequently attending trade and Joint Test Group (JTG) meetings.
  • You will maintain daily contact with the assigned ship and combat systems coordinators in order to monitor progress of shipboard work and keep abreast of and coordinate resolution of daily problems that have a potential impact on schedules.
  • You will visit the ship to observe progress of various installations and review problems with ship's force personnel, initiating action to correct or resolve items of emergent nature and convening and chairing conferences/ meetings as required.
  • You will develop work specifications, purchase requests in ERP and FMR's as required, provide budget estimates for work specifications and FMRs and initiate requests for funds, advising customers of problems that may arise.
  • You will review and sign concurrence of the ship's sea trial agenda, coordinating and scheduling all basic trial evolutions with the ship, contractor, and other stakeholders, initiating corrective actions of all resulting trial deficiencies.
  • You will conduct a complete review of the completion status of the ship and assemble all the necessary reports and data and prepare or assist in the preparation of the final written ship status report.
  • You will coordinate the program and process all HMR's/FMR's received, resolving all technical and administrative issues.
  • You will manage the Class Design Data Review Team (DDRT) program, evaluating and approving/disapproving the contractor's Request for Equitable Adjustment (REA).
  • You will coordinate the effort involved with maintaining the continuity of Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) certification and Deep Submergence Systems Scope of Certification.
  • You will coordinate the applicable Submarine Project Office actions dealing with major claims, researching, collecting data and providing written recommendations to upper level management regarding the contractor's right to entitlement.
