About the Role
The Primary Care Provider (Nurse Practitioner/NP) provides comprehensive clinical care, consultation, and patient management in support of the VA mission. They practice to the full extent of their training and certification, follow defined clinical privileges, and hold prescriptive authority for their assigned patient panel or program.

- →The Primary Care Provider (NP) is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients.
- →Duties of the position include are but not limited to: Manage a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice.
- →Develop and implement individualized plans to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
- →Demonstrate leadership and work collaboratively with Primary Care Team and other interdisciplinary team members.
- →Order and interpret labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
- →Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
- →Initiate referrals and consultations to specialty care services.
- →Provide education to patients and their families.
- →Assess and adjust the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

- →Influence and model the delivery of evidence-based health care, demonstrate expertise in the ability to manage a patient panel, population, or program.

- →Acquire knowledge and skills, then disseminate acquired information within and/or outside the medical facility.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓English Language Proficiency.
- ✓In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.
