What You'll Do
- →This is OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 31, 2026.
- →Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.
- →The physician shall provide primary care services required for VA beneficiaries.
- →The physician shall provide care at the Washington DC VA Medical Center or a.t the associated Community Based Out Patient clinics (CBOCs).
- →All labor and services shall be provided including management, supervision, teaching, consultations and reports.
- →Performance shall be according to the requirements contained in this Functional Statement and professional standards of The Joint Commission.
- →Care shall be . appropriately documented in the electronic medical record in accordance with standard . community practice.
- →The Primary Care physician's actual clinical activity shall be a function of The VAMC Executive Committee of the Medical Staff clinical privileging process and the overall demand for emergency services.
- →Provides direct hands-on patient care.
- →Assesses patients for acute illnesses and determine whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting.
- →Manages chronic disease.
- →Additionally, provides clinical guidance over video, by telephone, by Secure Messaging and through the mail.
- →Ensures accurate documentation of medical assessments and observations.
- →May be responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students once board-certified.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
