About the Role
The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to perform more complex nursing assignments within their practice setting. The incumbent possesses comprehensive practical nursing knowledge and skills in specialized procedures and practices.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice.
- →Uses veteran care data to initiate active contributions to the veteran's overall health plan.
- →Works in collaboration with the Registered Nurse and/or Health Care Provider.
- →Communicates effectively with veterans, families, caregivers, professionals, and other supportive staff.
- →Providing wound and foot care to patient populations at all complexity levels and care settings while requiring minimal supervision.
- →Provides effective education to patients and family members in relation to common disease processes, medication, and prescribed treatment regimes.
- →Performs complex dressing changes, wraps, wound vac change application, qoustic wound therapy, and total contact casting.
- →Provides complex outpatient care to wound, podiatry, prevention of amputations for veterans everywhere, and all surgical specialties.
- →Serves as the expert resource for clinicians and clinical staff for unplanned clinic issues and makes adjustments to plans for care delivery and immediate modification of patient care plans.
- →Accountable for hospital performance measures such as hand hygiene monitoring and Joint Commission readiness rounding.
- →Reports items critical to clinic operations requiring higher level intervention by Division level leadership.
- →Responsible for ensuring medications and associated items are ordered in a timely manner to ensure clinic efficiency, expiration dates are routinely checks, temperature monitoring compliance is adhered to, and monitors compliance of medication labeling.
- →Assures compliance of all clinic staff regarding infection control standards, environmental safety, security, and patient privacy in both policy and practice.
- →Performs other related duties as assigned.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
