About the Role

This position maintains a uniform presence at VA facilities and interestsnationwide. Enforce laws. Respond to incidents. Conduct investigations. Conduct securityassessments. Monitor alarms and communication centers. Sharing intelligence across VAand among local/state/Federal agencies, protect special events, training staff in preventionand emergency planning efforts.

What You'll Do

  • This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Operations, Security and Preparedness (OSP), Police Service and is responsible for VAs nationwide security, preparedness, and law enforcement operations with primary focus on protective and investigative services at VA Healthcare System.
  • The position prevents, protects, responds to and recovers from acts and incidentsthreatening infrastructure and services and the people who provide and receive VA services.The position primarily exists to provide Veteran centric security, preparedness, andprotection requiring knowledge, skills and abilities to de-escalate situations, respond to crisisand prevent suicide.
  • Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Performs a wide variety of duties encompassing investigations and enforcing federal, state, and local laws pertaining to violations on government property and federally controlled assets.
  • Investigates suspicious packages and people which may involve searches and seizures.
  • Captures audio and visual evidence.
  • Prepare final reports of the investigation, including the application of rules of evidence to substantiate conclusions and make recommendations to various parties on administrative actions to be taken.
  • Performs a wide variety of duties encompassing the enforcement and compliance of federal,state, and local laws on government property and federally controlled assets, with arrestauthority.
  • Takes actions to preserve the peace while protecting federal government facilitiesand personnel.
  • Bears departmental firearms.
  • Serves and executes search and arrest warrants; serves subpoenas and summonses; apprehends wanted persons who are accused of crimes in other jurisdictions.
  • Makes arrests with and without warrants.
  • Supervises federal medical center regulations and policy compliance.
  • Conducts investigations, both administrative and criminal in nature on VA property, and have been granted expanded jurisdiction under 38 USC 902, allowing for investigations nation-wide on property not owned or controlled by the VA.
  • Serves as a member of a Crisis Intervention Team, responding to and recognizing Veteransexperiencing mental health crisis, utilizing advanced de-escalation strategies and knowledge of VA resources to ensure the best possible outcome for our nation's Veterans.

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP) As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
