What You'll Do
- →This position is in the Training Services Bureau (TSB), Office of the Assistant Chief of Police for Standards and Training Operations, United States Capitol Police located at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Glynco, Georgia.
- →This position serves as a Training Instructor responsible for providing instruction in the field of law enforcement, initiating content changes, developing different approaches and methods of instruction, and initiating any other changes needed to improve the course to achieve course objectives.
- →Serves as an instructor and course developer in areas including, but not limited to, arrest process, restraining devices, searching techniques, defensive tactics, non-lethal control techniques, intermediate weapons, officer safety and survival, use of force, physical fitness, emergency response (CPR and trauma management), officer response tactics, and water safety and survival.
- →Develops, presents, and evaluates law enforcement training courses for the Department and Bureau in subjects such as new law enforcement equipment and techniques, defensive tactics, and related law enforcement topics.
- →Provides instruction on topics within a specialized subject matter field from approved course materials and instructional plans.
- →Evaluates and advises on students’ progress by observing performance of students and by developing and administering tests on materials studied.
- →Identifies learning problems of individual students, consults with staff specialists as needed, and counsels students who are having difficulty.
- →Adjusts training methods and sets up individual programs as required.
- →Prepares course outlines and daily lessons plans that are consistent with overall course objectives.
- →Research and analyses relevant case law for course presentations and evaluates and revises course content.
- →Determines and outlines coverage, specific goals, techniques, instructional aids and timing for each phase of each lesson.
- →Develops, reviews, and revises instructional materials in accordance with specific learning objectives.
- →Studies and analyses result in short courses, or modules and portions of longer courses, or complete products for courses of a conventional or established nature.
- →Prepare instructional materials for well-established courses.
Requirements
- ✓Must be a current USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant and have attained the rank of Private First Class.
- ✓Must have successfully completed your probationary period by the closing date of this announcement.
- ✓Must successfully complete a Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) accredited Law Enforcement Instructor Training Program (LEITP) or equivalent.
- ✓If budget or availability restricts this requirement, the TSB will provide on-the-job training until such certification can be obtained.
- ✓Must possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license.
- ✓Must not be in restricted leave status as of the date of selection.
- ✓Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status to attend, participate, and successfully complete all required training courses related to this position as of the date of selection.
- ✓Must be available to work flexible hours, rotating shifts and possible midnight assignments.
- ✓The work requires physical agility and dexterity.
- ✓FLETC Assignment Conditions • Regular training day: 0730–1630 with a 30 minute non compensable meal period.
- ✓There is no education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade.
