About the Role

This position is located at the VA Boston Healthcare System, Research Service Line in Boston, MA. The Physiologist performs exercise/functional assessments, provides exercise prescription/supervision as detailed in the study protocols, and organizes/participates in other research-related activities, including recruitment and screening of research participants, and data analysis as determined by the Principal Investigator (PI).

What You'll Do

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 8/1/2029).
  • Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4).
  • Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage.
  • Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4-year maximum).
  • The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
  • Major duties include, but are not limited to.
  • Support PI in the development, design, and conduct of research projects according to the plan and review the progress of the projects.
  • Formulate research methods and suggest options for improving quality, while identifying potential problems, and recommending and implementing solutions.
  • Perform screen and recruit candidates for clinical trials using objective rating techniques to determine eligibility and administer informed consent.
  • Perform exercise testing, exercise prescription, and exercise training for research studies.
  • Perform exercise monitoring on study participants.
  • Follow study protocols: analyzing, coding, and performing data entry based on study guidelines.
  • Use statistical software such as Excel and REDCap for data entry, reporting, and analysis.
  • Perform detailed mobility and cognitive assessments in study participants, including the use and analysis of wearable sensors (e.g., music-based digital device, actigraphy).
